McWilliam's Wines Becomes WSET Provider

McWilliam's Wines has become the first Australian winery to offer the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, Level Three Advanced Certificate in Wines & Spirits to liquor trade, staff and consumers.

McWilliam’s Wines has become the first Australian winery to offer the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, Level Three Advanced Certificate in Wines & Spirits to liquor trade, staff and consumers.  The winery will host its first WSET Level Three Advanced Certificate in Sydney on Monday, 12 April 2010.

The course will be offered through the winery’s Registered Training Organisation, McWilliam’s Wines Academy. McWilliam’s Wines welcomed the Academy into its family in 2003, becoming the first Australian winery to offer nationally recognised wine courses to the wine and hospitality trades.

“Education has played a pivotal role in our business over the last six years with a focus on increasing wine skills and knowledge among staff and the liquor trade. We are proud to have trained more than 1500 people over this period and we’re looking forward to our next chapter as we introduce the WSET course to trade, staff and consumers,” McWilliam’s Wines CEO, George Wahby said.

The McWilliam's Wines Academy offers three levels of qualifications - comprising an introductory ‘Bronze’ level, a ‘Silver’ intermediate tier and advanced ‘Gold’ level – accredited under the national Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). These qualifications suit career paths in hospitality, wine retail, cellar door, airlines and general wine industry positions.

McWilliam’s Wines Academy will offer the WSET Level Three Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits in New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia in 2010. Participants will be tutored by McWilliam’s Wines Manager of Education, Karen Macalister who last year celebrated her 20th year as a wine educator.
