Catching Thieves and Evans & Tate steal the show at Australia's wine show 'grand final'
Showcasing the strength of its Western Australian and regional portfolio, McWilliam's Wines stole the show last night at Australia's ‘grand final' of wine shows, the 2009 National Wine Show of Australia in Canberra. Among its haul, McWilliam's Wines was awarded two trophies and 11 gold medals.
Western Australia led the way, with a trophy and gold medal awarded to both the 2008 Catching Thieves Cabernet Merlot and 2007 Evans & Tate Margaret River Cabernet Merlot. Gold medals were also awarded to the 2009 Catching Thieves Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and 2005 Evans & Tate Reserve Chardonnay, as well as to wines across the fortified range and future vintages of Brand's Laira.
In an extraordinary night for the winery, McWilliam's Wines was also awarded the Trophy for Best Blended Red Wine at the 2009 Hobart Wine Show for its 2008 Brand's Laira Cabernet Merlot. This win brings the wine's show tally to an incredible one trophy and four gold medals. The currently available 2009 Catching Thieves Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, 2006 Barwang 842 Chardonnay also won gold medals at the show.
McWillam's Wines Production Director, Jim Brayne said the trophies and gold medals won by Catching Thieves and Evans & Tate at the 2009 National Wine Show of Australia reflected the winery's commitment and investment in the Western Australian region.
"Our two exceptionally strong, distinctly individual offerings from Western Australia are relatively new entrants to our family of wines so to receive this endorsement from the pinnacle of wine shows in Australia certainly supports what we are doing in the western state," Jim said.
The medals which will now adorn the currently available 2008 Catching Thieves Cabernet Merlot and 2009 Catching Thieves Semillon Sauvignon Blanc coincide with the recent introduction of a trial parcel of the two wines in soft bottles. Well received by consumers, the soft bottles provide a responsible and convenient alternative for Summer outdoor and on-premise occasions.
"These wines are generous with fruit flavour and really suit the outdoor, Summer lifestyle. To have them presented in two great packaging alternatives – glass and soft bottle – proudly wearing their success from the National Wine Show of Australia is a great coup for consumers," Jim added.
